Preparing to swim 2 km Oceanman

I’ve started consistently swimming from the beginning of 2025.

My main objective was get rid of the lower back pain as doctor advised. Later I have found out that swimming is not effective way of getting lower back muscles stronger, but I got to like swimming by that time.

In the July of I’ve decided to participate in 1km race in the open water. I was optimistic. I’ve swam 1 kilometer in the pool couple of times with rests, so it should be fine I thought.

In the day of the race, I saw the buoys and started getting nervous. The more the start of my race approached, the more of my fears started to unfold. What is the depth here, 10 meters, maybe 30? What if I swim to the farthest point, and won’t be able to return?

Anyway, I started the race, after 50 meters I panicked, started to gasp air. Apparently, there are no lines when you look down the water, but only greenish cloudy water and bubbles. I’ve raised my hand, and withdrew from the race.

I was devastated and thought of quitting. Quitting is not a big deal, I just enrolled to the race for fun. Till December 2025 I was thinking about whether I should try again or not.

Finally I’ve started training again in December 2025. Hopefully I’ll be able to complete the race this time.
